Leather Grades - Your Choice of Leather Furniture
Leather furniture is becoming increasingly popular and is the choice in upholstery of a growing number of people for both their homes and offices. And it is not surprising given that leather is natural, soft, durable, feels great against the skin regardless of season and most importantly… breathes!
Many pieces in our leather furniture give you the option of selecting the leather grade of your choice. Before choosing, it might be helpful for you to become more familiar with these leather grades, their features, differences and benefits.
The three options available are our standard grade leathers, the deluxe grade leathers and the premium grade leathers.
The Standard Grade leather is coated with a clear top finish that aids in the prevention of deep scratches and markings thereby protecting the leather. Cleaning and maintaining furniture with standard grade leather is simple and usually a wipe and frequent dusting are sufficient. We recommend that you use a soft and moist cloth to dust your leather chair occasionally. This will help maintain its beautiful sheen. Standard grade leather furniture is great for families especially when these include pets as they are the most durable.
The Deluxe Grade Leather used is top grain leather that is made feeling supple and smooth due to the fine pigments used in the finishing process. What this means is that the surface of the layer has been coated with finishing materials that contain pigments which stay very close to the surface of the leather giving it its softness and suppleness. It is often the case that a large majority of these leathers are distressed by the procedure of buffering, sanding or two tone finishes that hide any surface markings therefore giving the leather a more consistent, smoother and uniform look. The deluxe grade leather is also covered by a protective coat that helps maintain the state of the leather while also allowing for simple care methods. Deluxe grade leathers are great for families however do be aware of active pets that could damage the leather given it does not have the same degree of clear top coat as the Standard Grade Leather which provides additional protection.
The Premium Grade Leather is full top grain leather. It is dyed with aniline, an oil included in the synthesis of the dyes used during the tanning process of the leather. The aniline dye penetrates the pores of the leather giving it a rich color which enhances the patina (the lovely sheen you see on the leather as a result of use and age) of the hide. The premium grade leather shows a small degree of pigmentation giving this grade leather a super soft feel at the touch of the hands. You will notice that premium grade leather shows natural markings like scarring, wrinkling and other defects very clearly. Over time these characterisitc markings will offer the patina a well worn look which, combined with the human element of usage, will add to the deep charm, character and warmth these distinctive features offer. The premium leather grade is the ideal leather for those who appreciate the best in quality and delight in the beauty of 100% natural leathers. Additionally, it is worth noting that only the best hides are used in the creation of premium grade leather and each piece of furniture will have its very own distinctive color.
We hope that with this understanding you will make a more informed decision on the leather grade that is perfect for your home, office and current lifestyle habits.
